Today’s Pop Culture Cycle: wars amongst Sri Lankans live in U.S.

Here in US and Sri Lanka New Generation hear flavors of Hip-hop Culture. It is a culture invented here in States the term is loosely used when referring to commercialized rap music, It is the heartbeat of American ghetto youth who claimed their own self-expression and used it to rise above. Hip-hop culture has its roots in pride, truth, courage and self-determination.
Life goes on even Kids in Ceylon now want Rap. Ones who were born, Hip hop all they know!

I am here to say SOME OF OUR ‘Big Kids’ generations has formed these organizations/groups of people TRYING HARD TO IMMULATE above mention pride, truth, courage and self-determination and Religions to the mix also Putting their school colors and professional identity adding a new sub culture/ not so hip immigrants Sri Lankan Communities here in US.

The mission of the Sri Lankan Americans is to make its resources available and useful to YOUTH and the Sri Lankan people and to sustain and preserve a universal plus collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations. The goal of the Events we organize here in US should is to offer broad public access to a wide range of Talents and cultural documents as a contribution to education and lifelong learning.
These Professionals and Organizations should present these Events and Social Gatherings as part of the record of the past from Country of you were mostly free schooled. This primary Goal should reflect the attitudes, perspectives, and beliefs of different times. Some Events does not endorse the views expressed in these collections, which may contain events not welcome all Sri Lankans. Goal should be share and celebrate and to welcome - Invite all Sri Lankans of all walk of lives regardless of professional stature the religion the Race etc. Let’s face it we are from a country of silly Arrogance and pompous very much boasted.. We know how we are .You know who you are! Long history... Not so much to show to ourselves and to rest of the world. Let’s Thanks to mostly Brits what they have given and shared.
This year please not have the famous discussions of high powered Colombo life Vs. Village idiots talk, also having Servants to look after you , how gracefully and fortunate you were raised by amme from Galle top school you attended hostel you were barricaded used forks to eat pittu and the memories of Elephant House delicacy –gold you inherited from Granny(covers your entire arm) the dowry you received can live there for five generations and the coolest one we hear We are here in this country because ’ Loku Putha’s education and House we have back home bigger than the some of these rappers cribs ane! ” We are wasting time here. Husband hate not to have ‘daily news’ delivered to the front Poach,
Can we please ...Delete these whispering discussions about Sri Lankan boys who dance only to baila these are same bunch who jump ships landed here, you know They came from Arab countries, no class!! Why do they drive cabs? Working in 7 elevens giving us a bad name?? But let us Celebrate all PHD honors, Medical Doctors: how grate thou art. Last but least famous tales of ‘we came before Columbus. Rest came later should follow and bow us. Wow!

It is beginning to look like Big Kids of American Sri Lankans Starting that same old Culture and Tradition. Invitees always within the cycle and all Professionals or Cliques or friends of the oldest one came to US. This may harsh and direct Look at us around! It’s okay for you live here for three decades, one came last months ago. Who cares? Same ambition one is established other still struggling, you win again. Can’t we all like and dance to Desmond.. Amaradeva is little slow (I give you that>) Fine, Rookantha is unique ahead of his time... Too bad Clarence and Milton both have gone, Rap Hip Hop oh well. Kids dig. These Sri Lankan Parents HIP-hop continues...
Let’s Change the Cycle we saw in Sri Lanka and how we grew up As a result of a personal interaction with us as parents Challenge their competence, Communicate in ways that irritate are condescending. Give you unsolicited advice. They are quick to judge. Don’t respect you They may have learn from us how we associate with other people The Negative Cycle of Conflict Emotions ,Angry Hopeless, .Helpless , Frustrated, Confused , Misunderstood, Depressed Action our multi cultural Kids follow Violence Withdrawal, Passive-aggressive Blame Substance Abuse ..And some unknown hidden family secrets of Suicide cases amongst Sri Lankans families too. We may have illustrated not knowing...

You want be Hip in 2007? Hop in to essence which was so contagious — pure, honest and in your face. It was completely different from what was out there. For our Kids sake Just so remember the integrity of men is to be measured by their conduct not by their professions Even though this negativity still happens here and there, as the American Sri Lankan culture progresses, as a Proud six year old Father I must play a big role in conflict resolution and enforcing positively, let’s Change the cycle how we do things this year shall we?
